Job summary

Join our dynamic Endoscopy team as a Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse and play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care within a fast-paced and supportive environment.

The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership, support the day-to-day coordination of the unit and work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and effective service delivery.

You will be involved in caring for patients throughout the endoscopy pathway including admission, pre assessment, procedure, recovery and discharge. The role includes assisting with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, supporting patient flow and maintaining high standards of infection prevention and patient safety.

Applicants must hold a valid Nursing and Midwifery Council registration and have recent experience within an endoscopy setting.

Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills are essential. Experience supporting junior staff, students and quality improvement initiatives is desirable.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide clinical leadership and support the daily operational management of the endoscopy unit.
  • Deliver high standards of patient-centred care throughout the patient pathway including admission, pre assessment, procedure, recovery and discharge.
  • Assist with diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures while maintaining patient dignity, safety and comfort.
  • Coordinate patient flow and support efficient utilisation of clinical capacity and resources.
  • Supervise, support and mentor junior staff, healthcare assistants, students and new team members.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, incident reporting and audit requirements in accordance with Trust policies.
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention, decontamination standards and safe handling of endoscopy equipment.
  • Recognise and escalate deteriorating patients appropriately and participate in emergency situations when required.
  • Support quality improvement projects, audits and compliance with Joint Advisory Group on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (JAG) standards.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective and high-quality service delivery.
