Charity Accountant
A well-established and purpose-driven rescue charity is seeking an experienced Charity Accountant to join its team on a fully remote basis.
The role will be responsible for overseeing the charity's day-to-day financial operations, maintaining accurate financial records and providing effective financial reporting to support the organisation's continued growth and charitable work.
Key Responsibilities- Managing the charity's accounts using Xero.
- Maintaining accurate bookkeeping and financial records.
- Completing bank reconciliations and processing invoices, payments and expenses.
- Preparing monthly management accounts and financial reports.
- Monitoring budgets, expenditure and cash flow.
- Managing restricted and unrestricted funds.
- Recording and reconciling donations, grants and other income.
- Supporting the preparation of annual accounts and independent examination/audit.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant charity accounting, HMRC and regulatory requirements.
- Supporting Gift Aid processes where applicable.
- Liaising with external accountants, auditors and other professional advisers.
- Providing financial information and guidance to trustees and senior management.
- Reviewing and improving financial processes and controls.
The successful candidate will have solid accounting experience, ideally gained within a charity or not-for-profit environment, together with strong practical knowledge of Xero.
Experience of charity accounting, restricted funds, Gift Aid, grants and preparing accounts for independent examination would be highly desirable.
The role would suit an organised and commercially aware finance professional who can work independently in a fully remote environment, communicate confidently with trustees and non-finance colleagues, and is passionate about supporting an organisation with a strong animal welfare mission.
A relevant accounting qualification such as AAT, ACCA, CIMA or ACA would be advantageous, although relevant practical experience will also be considered.
