Full time, permanent post

The Assistant Practitioner will work as an integral member of the Musculoskeletal (MSK) Physiotherapy Team in Rotherham, supporting Physiotherapists in the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of patients presenting with a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions.

Working under the direction of a qualified Physiotherapist, the post holder will deliver delegated aspects of patient care, including exercise programmes, rehabilitation interventions and advice to help patients manage their condition and improve their functional independence.

The role will involve working with patients across a broad range of presentations, including spinal, upper and lower limb conditions, and persistent musculoskeletal disorders.

The Assistant Practitioner will be expected to work within their agreed scope of practice, recognising changes in a patient's condition and escalating concerns appropriately to a registered Physiotherapist or other appropriate healthcare professional.

The successful Band 4 Assistant Practitioner candidate should be highly motivated, with a keen interest in strength and conditioning and a desirable background in gym-based rehabilitation, demonstrating enthusiasm for supporting patients to achieve their rehabilitation goals.

Main duties of the job

Support Physiotherapists in the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred MSK rehabilitation.

Undertake delegated assessments and interventions appropriate to the individual's competence and scope of practice.

Deliver and progress therapeutic exercise programmes, both individually and within group settings where appropriate.

Provide patients with education and advice regarding exercise, activity, self-management and appropriate management of their condition.

Monitor patient progress and provide feedback to the supervising Physiotherapist.

Recognise when a patient's presentation or progress falls outside the Assistant Practitioner's scope of practice and seek appropriate clinical support.

Maintain accurate, timely and confidential clinical documentation in accordance with local policies and professional standards.

Assist with the organisation and smooth running of outpatient physiotherapy clinics & rehabilitation groups.

Work collaboratively with Physiotherapists as well as administrative staff.

Contribute to maintaining a safe, clean and effective clinical environment, including weekly emergency checks.

Participate in service development, audit, quality improvement and departmental activities as required.

Support students and/ or other colleagues where appropriate and within the post holder's level of competence.

  • Due to the nature of the role it is essential that applicants are able to travel independently across the county and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. If necessary, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010

  • Completed recognised IT course e.g. ECDL/Elite/MOST
  • Qualification related to sports and exercises
