About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Health & Safety Manager to join a successful manufacturing business on a fixed-term maternity cover contract.
This is a hands-on position responsible for managing Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) activities across multiple sites. Working closely with senior leaders and operational teams, you will ensure compliance, maintain management systems, manage risk and drive a positive safety culture across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support SHEQ activities across manufacturing and operational sites.
- Promote a strong health and safety culture through engagement, coaching and guidance.
- Maintain and improve the Integrated Management System.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
- Manage internal audits and support external certification audits.
- Investigate incidents, non-conformities and near misses, implementing corrective actions where required.
- Review and support risk assessments, COSHH assessments and Safe Systems of Work.
- Monitor SHEQ performance, analyse trends and provide reports to senior management.
- Oversee key compliance programmes, including statutory inspections, fire safety, emergency preparedness and Legionella management.
- Manage SHEQ training requirements and work with managers to maintain competency levels.
- Support environmental compliance, sustainability initiatives and reporting requirements.
- Partner with operational teams to identify quality improvements and drive continuous improvement projects.
About You
You will have previous Health & Safety or SHEQ management experience within a manufacturing, engineering, production or operational environment and be comfortable managing multiple priorities across a busy multi-site operation.
Essential:
- IOSH qualification or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
- Experience managing audits, corrective actions and compliance programmes.
- Knowledge of risk assessments, incident investigations and health & safety legislation.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Previous experience leading or supporting a SHEQ function.
Desirable:
- Internal Auditor qualification.
- IEMA or environmental qualification.
- Experience with SHEQ management systems.
- Knowledge of sustainability and environmental reporting.
- Multi-site manufacturing experience.
