Interim Category Manager - Indirects

Hays are partnered exclusively with a reputable and growing business in Hull to recruit an experienced Interim IT & Indirect Category Manager. Working closely with senior stakeholders, you will play a key role in shaping procurement activity, strengthening supplier relationships and driving cost-effective purchasing decisions that support wider business objectives.

Your new role
As Interim IT & Indirect Category Manager, you will lead end-to-end sourcing and procurement activity across IT, telecommunications and wider indirect spend categories. You will be responsible for developing and implementing category strategies, analysing spend and market trends, identifying opportunities for savings and value creation, and building sourcing pipelines that support long-term business requirements.

You will manage tender exercises including RFQs and RFPs, lead commercial negotiations and oversee contract management activity from award through to renewal. The role will involve working closely with suppliers to drive performance improvements, conduct regular business reviews and ensure service delivery against agreed KPIs.A significant part of the position will focus on stakeholder engagement. You will partner with budget holders and senior leaders across the business, providing commercial guidance, influencing buying decisions and challenging demand where appropriate. You will also support procurement governance, manage supplier risks and maintain compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.

This is a hands-on interim assignment suited to an experienced procurement professional who can quickly establish credibility, operate independently and deliver results from day one.

What you'll need to succeed

You'll have strong category knowledge in IT, telecommunications and/or indirect procurement, with proven experience delivering strategic sourcing projects, category management initiatives and commercial negotiations. You will be comfortable leading tender processes, negotiating contracts and managing supplier relationships within a fast-paced environment.

Strong stakeholder management skills are essential, with the ability to influence senior leaders, build effective working relationships and provide commercial challenge where required. You'll be commercially astute, analytical in your approach and experienced in delivering savings, managing supplier performance and supporting procurement governance.

Previous experience managing contracts, supplier risk and performance reporting will be highly beneficial. You must also be available at short notice or immediately available to commence the assignment.

The role offers flexible hybrid working, with three days per week based in the Hull office and two days working from home. The contract will run for an initial 3-6 months and offers a daily rate of £450-500 per day, inside IR35.
