Job summary

Gastroenterology is part of the Acute & Integrated Community Care Directorate at East Cheshire NHS Trust (ECNT) which is one of three Directorates within the Trust. The successful candidate is expected to have general gastroenterology experience and be fully competent in gastroenterology procedures.

Applicants must be on the General Medical Council Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted (at the date of interview) to the Register for trainees if in a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the GMC Specialist Register to be considered for a consultant appointment by the Advisory Appointments Committee.

Applicants must continue to hold a Licence to Practise and full details of the person specification.

Hours per week: 40 hours (10 PAs)

Main duties of the job

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • The appointee will take a share of the Consultant Clinical responsibilities within the department. This will include:
  • Active involvement and leadership in management and decision making of complex gastroenterology cases.
  • Being available during the working week so that medical and nursing staff can communicate and consult freely.
  • Close liaison with the Operational Line managers and the Clinical Lead to ensure that waiting list targets and associated standards are achieved.
  • Ensuring that management plans are clearly displayed in the notes of patients with complex needs.

About us

NHS Medical and Dental salaries are set at a national level. For new starters not already working to UK Medical and Dental terms and conditions of service will be appointed to the minimum paypoint. The starting salary paypoint can only be increased when there is evidence of relevant, completed year's experience in terms of nature, type and level of role. Essential

  • FRCOphth (Fellowship Exam of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists) or equivalent
  • Applicants must have full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligible for registration within six months of interview)
  • UK trained applicants are required to be a Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
  • Applicants are required to be on the Specialist Register or due to obtain their CCT within 6 months of interview. CESR candidates must have written GMC confirmation of successful application.

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT (Certificate of Completion of training).
  • Broad range of recent experience in Ophthalmology.
  • Evidence of abilityto change clinical practice and service provision.
  • Can evidence up to date practice in line with recent initiatives.
  • Fullycompetent in high volume phacoemulsification - cataract surgery.
  • Fully competent in Oculoplastic management including surgery.

Desirable

  • Fellowship training in Oculoplastic.
