Job summary

The Trust Grade Doctor in General Medicine will be an integral member of the General and Specialist Medicine Division, providing high-quality care to patients across inpatient and acute medical settings. The post holder will participate in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of patients presenting with a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions. Working under the supervision of Consultant Physicians and alongside multidisciplinary teams, the doctor will contribute to the delivery of safe, effective and patient-centred care while developing clinical competencies in General Internal Medicine.

The post offers excellent opportunities for clinical experience, education, quality improvement activity and professional development in a supportive teaching environment. The successful candidate will participate in the General Medical on-call rota and provide care across the Division according to service requirements.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide high-quality medical care for patients admitted under General and Specialist Medicine
  • Assess, investigate, diagnose and manage patients presenting with acute medical conditions.
  • Participate in the General Internal Medicine on-call rota, including evenings, nights and weekends.
  • Undertake ward rounds, patient reviews and clinical management plans under appropriate Consultant supervision.
  • Respond promptly to deteriorating patients and medical emergencies across the hospital.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Maintain accurate, timely and legally compliant clinical documentation.
  • Participate in outpatient clinics where service provision and training opportunities allow.
  • Contribute to teaching, audit, quality improvement and clinical governance activities.
  • Engage in continuing professional development and maintain compliance with GMC standards and revalidation requirements.
