Start Date: September 2026
Salary: Paid in line with the Main Teacher Pay Scale from day one, dependent on experience. Full-time, term-time only.
Aspire People is recruiting on behalf of a welcoming mainstream primary school in Rochdale that is seeking an experienced and dedicated SEN Teacher to lead a specialist class for pupils with autism from September 2026.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a well-resourced and highly supportive setting where pupils benefit from tailored provision designed to meet their individual needs. The successful candidate will be responsible for a small class of pupils, all of whom have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and personalised speech and language targets.
Supported by a knowledgeable and experienced team of Teaching Assistants, you will play a key role in helping pupils develop academically, socially and communicatively.
The successful SEN Teacher will take full responsibility for the planning, delivery and assessment of learning within the provision. Pupils present with a range of communication needs, including non-verbal pupils and those requiring specialist communication approaches.
You will create a structured, engaging and supportive environment that enables pupils to access learning, develop independence and achieve their individual EHCP outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver a personalised curriculum tailored to pupils with autism
- Lead a small class within a specialist provision based in a mainstream school
- Support pupils working towards individual EHCP and speech and language targets
- Adapt teaching approaches to meet a range of communication needs, including non-verbal learners
- Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, external professionals and families
- Monitor and assess progress, maintaining accurate records and reports
- Create a positive, structured and nurturing learning environment
- Promote communication, independence and emotional wellbeing
The ideal candidate will:
- Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Have experience teaching pupils with autism
- Be confident supporting non-verbal pupils and those with complex communication needs
- Have a strong understanding of EHCPs and personalised learning programmes
- Be able to plan and deliver creative, engaging lessons that meet individual needs
- Demonstrate excellent classroom and behaviour management skills
- Be committed to inclusive education and achieving positive outcomes for all pupils
- Experience working within specialist provisions, autism units or SEN schools would be highly advantageous.
