Principal Data Engineer
About this job
We are looking for an experienced Principal Data Engineer to provide technical leadership across our enterprise data platforms, architecture, and engineering capabilities.
You will design and deliver secure, scalable and reliable cloud-based data solutions, while establishing engineering standards and best practices across data integration, pipelines, DataOps, DevOps, data quality and governance.
Working closely with architects, software engineers, analysts and business stakeholders, you will help shape our data strategy and deliver capabilities that support data-driven decision-making, advanced analytics, AI and machine learning.
Key Responsibilities- Design and evolve scalable, secure enterprise data architectures and platforms.
- Lead the development of data pipelines, integration frameworks and data products.
- Establish engineering standards, reusable patterns and best practices.
- Drive adoption of cloud-native technologies, DevOps, DataOps, CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code.
- Champion data quality, governance, lineage, security and compliance.
- Improve platform performance, scalability, reliability and cost efficiency.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring and coaching to data engineering teams.
- Support cloud migration and data platform modernisation.
- Manage technical risks, dependencies and delivery challenges.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and influence technology strategy and roadmaps.
You will have:
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Systems or a related discipline.
- 7+ years' experience in data engineering, software engineering or data platform development.
- Proven experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale data solutions.
- Strong knowledge of modern cloud data platforms and architectures.
- Experience with DevOps/DataOps, automation, CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code.
- Strong understanding of data governance, quality, security and compliance.
- Excellent technical leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable: Master's degree, cloud certifications (AWS, Azure or GCP), or recognised certifications such as TOGAF or DAMA CDMP.
