Learning Mentor - Alternative Provision

Are you passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning? We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Learning Mentor to join our Alternative Provision team in Launceston. In this role, you will work one-on-one with young people experiencing Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. You will deliver tailored learning, build vital core skills, and help restore their confidence in education.

Responsibilities:
  • Deliver Community-Based Education: Work out in the local community to create engaging, non-traditional learning environments tailored to the young person's interests.
  • Core Subject Support: Plan and deliver targeted support for GCSE English and Maths to help students build essential academic foundations.
  • Build Trust & Confidence: Act as a positive role model, using trauma-informed approaches to re-engage young people who have struggled in mainstream settings.
  • Track Progress: Monitor emotional wellbeing, attendance, and academic milestones, adapting your approach as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Experience: Proven experience working with young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviours.
  • Education: Strong working knowledge of the GCSE English and Maths curriculum.
  • Driving: Full UK driving license and access to a reliable vehicle for community travel is essential.
  • Skills: High emotional intelligence, patience, strong boundary-setting, and excellent communication.
