Job summary
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Scrub Nurse to join our weekend theatre team at James Paget NHS Trust. This role offers the opportunity to work within a high-quality, patient-focused surgical service, supporting a range of specialties including general surgery, ENT, and Gynaecology.
As a Scrub Nurse, you will play a key role in delivering safe and effective perioperative care, ensuring the smooth running of theatre lists and maintaining the highest standards of clinical practice. You will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to support patient safety, assist during surgical procedures, and contribute to efficient theatre operations.
This is a weekend-based role within a structured theatre service, offering consistent shifts and the opportunity to contribute to a well-established and supportive clinical environment

Role OverviewWe are seeking a skilled and experienced Scrub Nurse to join the weekend theatre team at James Paget NHS Trust. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering safe, effective, and high-quality perioperative care across a range of surgical specialties, supporting theatre efficiency and patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and maintain a sterile environment within the operating theatre.
- Assist the surgical team during procedures by anticipating and providing required instruments and materials.
- Ensure all surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies are available, checked, and fit for use prior to procedures.
- Adhere to infection prevention and control policies at all times.
- Account for all instruments, swabs, and sharps before, during, and after procedures.
- Support patient safety throughout the perioperative pathway.
- Work collaboratively with surgeons, anaesthetists, ODPs, and theatre staff.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in line with clinical standards.
- Contribute to the effective and efficient running of theatre lists.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant NHS and organisational policies and procedures.

- Proven experience working as a Scrub Nurse in theatre settings
- Experience across relevant surgical specialties
- Strong knowledge of aseptic technique and surgical procedures

- Experience working in NHS theatre environments
- Flexibility to adapt to different surgical lists and team dynamics
- PAYE: £360 per weekend shift
- Weekend-only role (Saturday & Sunday shifts)
- No travel or accommodation allowance provided
- Accommodation may be available at £30 per night
- Compliance requirements include documentation, ID verification, and mandatory e-learning completion
