Primary Care Careers Lead Practice Nurse

The closing date is 25 October 2026

Apply for this job

Job summary

Lincoln House Surgery is seeking an experienced and confident lead practice nurse, on a full-time basis, which will include one late evening clinic (10am - 6pm). You will work across our Aspley and Highfield sites on a rota basis.

We can only consider applicants with current GP surgery experience who can hit the ground running from day one to join us. This is NOT a role for someone new to general practice: we are looking for a nurse with solid experience in a GP surgery/primary care setting, who is already competent and confident in the day-to-day responsibilities of a practice nurse and can provide leadership to an established team. If you enjoy leading others while continuing hands-on clinical work and want to make a real impact in a supportive, forward-thinking surgery, we'd love to hear from you.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early should sufficient applications be received.

Main duties of the job

You will provide excellent patient care while taking a key leadership role within the nursing team, helping ensure high standards, compliance and smooth day-to-day operations. You will be expected to confidently manage a broad range of general practice nursing duties including:

  • Adult & childhood vaccination & immunisation programmes
  • Travel vaccinations & health-advice
  • Cervical cytology (smears)
  • Health assessments & new patient checks
  • Hypertension management & reviews
  • Asthma, COPD & diabetes clinics/reviews
  • Wound care & dressings
  • Long-term condition management
  • Medication reviews & treatment monitoring
  • Family planning support
  • Health promotion & preventative care
  • Phlebotomy, ECGs & treatment room procedures
  • Opportunistic care & patient education
  • Day-to-day clinical leadership & supervision
  • Managing nursing team rotas & clinical cover
  • Supporting staff development, mentorship & appraisals
  • Monitoring staff competencies & training requirements
  • Managing & supporting staff absence processes
  • Ensuring policies & procedures are followed
  • Acting as a role model for excellent clinical standards
  • Supporting recruitment, induction & team development
  • Governance, compliance & quality

You will also take ownership of:

  • Leading on Infection Prevention & Control (IPC)
  • Supporting & maintaining CQC compliance
  • Leading audits & quality improvement projects
  • Developing & reviewing clinical policies
  • Ensuring nursing team compliance & standards are maintained
  • Maintaining accurate records & evidence gathering
