About this job

Mtec Fine Art is looking for a skilled Case Maker to join our Woodshop team.

You will be responsible for designing, manufacturing and assembling bespoke cases, crates, plinths and protective solutions used to safely transport, store and display high-value artworks.

Working alongside our in-house teams, you will create precision-built packaging solutions tailored to individual artworks, including paintings, sculptures, installations and other specialist objects.

This is a hands-on role for someone who takes pride in their craftsmanship, has excellent attention to detail and understands the importance of quality construction when protecting valuable works of art.

Key Responsibillities:

  • Design, manufacture and assemble bespoke fine art cases, crates and plinths to project specifications.
  • Interpret technical drawings, measurements and packing requirements to create accurate solutions.
  • Select and work with appropriate materials including timber, plywood, foam and specialist protective materials.
  • Use hand tools, power tools and woodworking machinery safely and effectively.
  • Measure, cut, assemble and finish cases to a high standard of craftsmanship.
  • Ensure completed cases meet quality standards for domestic and international transportation.
  • Maintain workshop tools, machinery and equipment, reporting any issues promptly.
  • Follow Health & Safety procedures, Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
  • Maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop environment.
  • Support wider packing and project activities when required.

What we are looking for

Essential:

  • Previous experience in carpentry, joinery, woodworking, cabinet making, case making or a similar
  • Strong practical knowledge of woodworking techniques and construction methods.
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools and woodworking machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent attention to detail and pride in producing high-quality work.
  • Strong problemsolving skills and a practical approach to challenges.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a wider team.
  • Good communication skills and a commitment to safe working practices.

Desirable:

  • Experience creating bespoke transit cases or specialist packaging solutions.
  • Experience within fine art, logistics, or similar industries.
  • Knowledge of artwork protection, conservation materials or specialist handling requirements.
  • Forklift experience or relevant certification.

This role is based at our workshop location, which is only easily accessible by car.
