Medical Sciences Division, Oxford
OPEN TO INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY IN THE FIRST INSTANCE PLEASE
Academic Director: Animal Research Infrastructure Services (Medical Sciences Division)
- Competitive salary at ALC6 (pro rata)
- Part time 0.6 FTE for a 5 year fixed term
- This role also offers the opportunity for hybrid working alongside some in person attendance at BMS, Mansfield Rd, Oxford and other locations in the Medical Sciences Division.
About the Role: This is a senior executive role for an active academic to lead and deliver the transformation of the Division's approach to the infrastructure and services that underpin Oxford's world leading biomedical research.
Although the postholder will be an academic with a mandate to provide visible academic leadership within the research community, the responsibilities of the role are those of an executive leadership post rather than an academic post. The Academic Director will report to the Head of Division and operates with delegated authority for determining strategy, directing delivery, and assuring performance in line with the Vision and Principles. The postholder will lead the current Biomedical Services Unit (comprising just over 100 staff) and will have a wider remit to provide leadership in relation to biomedical research infrastructure across the Division and the wider University.
Skills and Qualifications: - Academic standing and credibility within a relevant biomedical, clinical, life sciences or related research field, with the ability to provide visible leadership to a senior academic and research community.
- Experience of providing assurance and reporting to senior governance bodies, committees or equivalent decision-making groups.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate and develop teams, including delegating effectively while retaining accountability for outcomes.
- Financial and resource management experience, including budget accountability, financial planning, value for money and delivery of sustainable services.
- Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trust and work effectively with senior academic, professional services, regulatory and external stakeholders.
