Youth Support Worker - Life Chance Trust

1-year Fixed Term (with potential to extend)

Manage a weekly caseload of approximately eight young people; lead end-to-end onboarding and match young people with volunteer mentors; support the management of the Youth Board; help plan youth residential trips and lead group activities; maintain accurate safeguarding, case-management and impact records; and travel regularly across South Devon and to the Trust's hubs in Newton Abbot, Torbay and Exeter. A suitable car and full, clean UK driving license are essential.

The Life Chance Trust is a South Devon-based charity transforming the futures of young people aged 16-25 who have experienced trauma, adversity, or disrupted education. Through mentoring, life skills development, careers coaching and community engagement, we empower young people to build resilience, achieve their goals, and thrive.

• Provide consistent one-to-one outreach mentoring to approximately eight young people each week, building trusted professional relationships and helping them work towards agreed goals.
• Lead the referral and onboarding process, including introductory meetings, assessments, consent, support planning, baseline outcomes and risk-management arrangements.
• Help match young people with suitable volunteer mentors, support introductions and monitor each mentoring relationship.
• Support the Youth Board and create meaningful opportunities for young people to co- design services and influence the Trust's work.
• Plan and lead safe, inclusive group activities and help organise and deliver youth residential trips.
• Maintain accurate case, safeguarding, risk, attendance and impact records, responding promptly to concerns or changes in risk.
• Work collaboratively with families, carers, referral partners and other professionals, and support wider service coordination where required.

You will be positive, approachable and reliable, with the confidence to engage young people who may be hesitant to trust services.

You will bring:

• At least two years' experience in youth work or a closely related role supporting young people.
• Experience of delivering one-to-one mentoring, casework or targeted support and building effective professional relationships.
• Strong safeguarding knowledge and practical experience of identifying, recording and escalating concerns.
• A genuine commitment to trauma-informed, inclusive and young-person-centred practice, with clear professional boundaries.
• The judgement to work independently in outreach settings while keeping managers appropriately informed.
• Strong communication, organisation and administration skills, including accurate use of records, spreadsheets, databases and deadlines.
• Confidence facilitating groups, supporting youth-led meetings and enabling young people to shape services.
• Experience of supporting care-experienced or trauma-affected young people, young people with special educational needs, disabilities or neuro-diversity, volunteer mentors, youth participation, residential trips or impact data would be particularly valuable.
• You must have a full, clean UK driving licence, access to a suitable car insured for business use and be willing to travel regularly across South Devon. Occasional evening, weekend or overnight work may be required for Youth Board meetings, activities and residential trips.
