Job summary
The Head of Finance provides strategic financial management support to their assigned Care Groups. This includes leading on the financial aspects of all elements of care group business including planning, reporting and business development.
The Head of Finance is responsible for the efficient functioning, integrity, business focus and performance of the Care Group Financial Management Team (Finance Managers, Deputy Finance Managers and Assistant Finance Managers). The post holder is responsible for ensuring that the Care Group Financial Management Team is appropriately configured, and individuals within it possess the qualifications, skills, and training to enable them to meet customer expectations and required outcomes.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide strategic financial leadership and expert advice on complex and sensitive financial matters, supporting senior managers, Directors and external stakeholders. They will lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and performance reporting for an allocated Care Group, ensuring robust financial controls and effective resource management.
The role is responsible for developing and monitoring annual income and expenditure plans, identifying financial risks and supporting delivery of the Trust's objectives. The post holder will provide financial analysis and recommendations to support decision-making, service development and financial recovery where required.
They will lead the financial and economic appraisal of business cases, applying the NHSE Five Case Model and appropriate investment appraisal techniques. The post holder will also have responsibility for budget authorisation, management of the Care Group Financial Management Team, and continuous improvement of financial systems and processes.
The role will support quality improvement initiatives, embed Service Line Reporting to identify efficiency opportunities, oversee service level agreement monitoring, and lead or contribute to ad hoc projects, service reviews and corporate initiatives. The post holder will provide financial training and guidance to budget holders and managers to support informed decision-making and sound financial governance.
