Job summary

To support the Director of Logistics and Deputy Head of Transport in the delivery of logistics services including transport andwarehousing to NHS partners. The Operations Manager will lead customer onboarding and integration initiatives within QE Facilities, bringing efficiencies, quality and continuous improvement. In this role, you will work across a number ofinternal and external contracts providing quality courier and warehousing services to NHS Trusts including Gateshead HealthcareNHS Trust. The postholder will actively lead operations teams and be responsible for ensuring all SLA's are met.

Main duties of the job

To manage a transport fleet and team of drivers providing transportation services including courier services to clients in a fast paced and regulated activity environment.

Works closely with Senior management, Senior Leadership and clients co-operating between different business functions to provide excellent customer service and manage all activities in accordance with the agreed budget.

QE Facilities (QEF) is a wholly owned subsidiary company of Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust (GHNT), based in the North East of England.

We provide a range of non- clinical services to GHNT and other NHS organisations. Our services include: estates, facilities services, procurement, medical engineering and devices, endoscopy decontamination and sterile services, transport, out-patient pharmacy, and prevention & management of violence & aggression training (PMVA).

In addition we provide consultancy services, advising clients on all aspects of establishing a subsidiary company within an NHS body to the provision of VAT compliance advice.

QE Facilities work to their own Terms and Conditions and these are not the same as Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust Terms and Conditions. This is not an Agenda for Change Pay Rate.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Making sure the Transport operation meets its performance and safety targets, monitoring it and reporting to senior management.
  • Minimising disruption and resolving any unscheduled delays, having to make operational decisions in difficult situations sometimes with limited information.
  • Making sure that transport services are ran professionally and efficiently as possible minimising costs, maximising returns.
  • Advising on policy and strategic developments and examining business decisions (pricing, level of service provision,timetable changes) to assess their impact on client and company requirements.
  • Ensuring that all operations are carried out in accordance with UK and European Union laws and regulations, particularly relating to health and safety and transport regulations.
  • Writing clear reports and presenting options and recommendations to senior management.
  • Analysing results of surveys on customer satisfaction and starting new projects to improve performance.
  • Meeting clients to deal with complaints and areas of concern, liaising with professional bodies.
  • Managing and supervising staff, organising work shift rotas and coordinating staff training, performance,recruitment.
  • Negotiating and managing contracts and developing new business opportunities whenever possible.
  • Liaising and negotiating with different external stakeholders as required including highways authorities, and other transport providers.
  • Identifying existing and possible future transport problems, developing transport models and investigating the feasibility of alternatives.
  • To implement and maintain new guidelines/policies and procedures through an effective QMS, identify issues, risks and opportunities within the department to continually improve on the services delivered.

  • CPC Qualification
