Job summary

Are you an experienced healthcare operations professional ready to make a real impact in primary care?

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Operations Manager to join a busy GP practice in Rushden, Northamptonshire.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an operationally focused manager who enjoys bringing structure, improving processes and supporting teams to deliver an excellent patient experience.

Working closely with the Central Operations Manager, GP Partners and clinical leadership team, you will take a lead role in the day-to-day operational delivery of the practice, ensuring that services run efficiently, teams are well supported and opportunities for improvement are identified and implemented.

Main duties of the job

As Operations Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the practice operates effectively across its day-to-day services.

You will provide visible, supportive leadership to the administrative and operational teams, whilst working collaboratively with clinical colleagues to ensure that patient services are delivered safely, efficiently and consistently.

Job responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the day-to-day operational management of the practice.
  • Leading, supporting and developing administrative and reception teams.
  • Ensuring appropriate staffing levels and effective workforce utilisation.
  • Monitoring staff rotas, workload and service capacity.
  • Identifying operational pressures and implementing practical solutions.
  • Reviewing and improving processes to increase efficiency and patient experience.
  • Monitoring practice performance against agreed KPIs and operational targets.
  • Supporting the delivery of access, appointment and demand-management initiatives.
  • Working with clinical teams to improve patient pathways and operational processes.
  • Supporting the implementation of new systems, processes and service developments.
  • Ensuring practice policies and procedures are implemented consistently.
  • Supporting compliance with CQC, NHS contractual requirements, health and safety and other relevant standards.
  • Assisting with audits, inspections and preparation for CQC requirements.
  • Supporting the management of complaints, incidents and significant events where appropriate.

  • Supporting recruitment, onboarding, performance management and absence management.

  • Experience working within General Practice, primary care, NHS or another healthcare environment.

  • Strong organisational and workload-management skills.
  • Experience of monitoring performance and delivering against KPIs.
  • A good understanding of healthcare operational processes.
  • Experience of improving systems and processes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The confidence to challenge constructively and make informed decisions.
  • Excellent problem-solving and prioritisation skills.
  • Strong IT and data-management skills.
  • An understanding of CQC, NHS contractual and healthcare governance requirements.
