Director of Finance & Operations

Robert Half is exclusively partnering with a well-established Bristol-based charity to appoint a Director of Finance & Operations, covering maternity leave.

You'll sit on the Senior Management Team, act as strategic lead for finance, operations and grant-making, and report directly to the CEO - equally comfortable in the Boardroom and close to operational detail.

Location: Bristol - hybrid 2 days onsite.

Salary: Circa £75,000

Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer

Duration: 12 month FTC

Direct reports: Financial Controller, Head of Grants, Head of Operations

The charity has recently been through a merger, and this role will help steer the resulting change programme, including a finance system implementation already in flight.

What You'll Do:

• Own budgeting, forecasting, management accounts and month-end close, reporting into the Finance & Grants and Audit Committees.
• Lead risk, governance and policy - including company secretary duties and Board/committee papers.
• Act as HR lead, overseeing payroll, pay and staff wellbeing. Manage two investment portfolios and a portfolio of let properties, including rent reviews and lease renewals.
• Run the year-end audit and SORP-compliant statutory accounts.
• Oversee IT and operational projects, and line-manage a Financial Controller, Head of Operations and Head of Grants - a team currently settling into some new appointments.

About You:

• Qualified accountant with senior/Director-level experience in the charity sector - essential, to hit the ground running.
• Confident presenting to Trustees and Boards, and translating finance for non-finance audiences.
• Strong, adaptable people leader - comfortable managing a varied team through a period of change.
• Working knowledge of charity SORP and UK charity governance.
